Why I switched from ConvertKit to Kajabi for Email Marketing

After four years of being a diehard ConvertKit fan, I made the decision to move our email marketing list from ConvertKit over to Kajabi. Today, I’m going to break down the top five reasons that we made the decision to switch from ConvertKit to Kajabi, as well as what I think about Kajabi’s email marketing now that we’re using it! I hope that this discussion helps you determine which email platform is right for you.

Back when I started my email list, I began on MailChimp. After growing to 1,000 subscribers, I moved to ConvertKit around 2017. Because of our email list, we were able to grow our business, bring my husband home from corporate America, and reach all of you! I truly loved ConvertKit. But, after 4 years of using the software, we realized that we were hitting roadblocks in our email marketing.

Our decision to leave ConvertKit was NOT because the software had issues. It was because we realized we wanted and needed to streamline our backend processes. We had an out of control monster of patches and fixes to try and make the two platforms work together.

This wasn’t what we needed to be spending our time dealing with as business owners.

Here’s why I moved from ConvertKit to Kajabi for email marketing:

#1: I wanted to simplify our business processes!

I just really decided that I didn’t want a bunch of different tools running my business, I want to streamline and I want to simplify so that running our business is easier so that I can rest assured that when I go to sleep at night, our tools are not going to break down because they’re all trying to talk and communicate with each other. This has led me to simplifying our products, funnels, and marketing systems. That’s the biggest reason that we left ConvertKit for Kajabi’s email marketing systems.

#2: Simplified customer consumption!

The second main reason that we chose to move from ConvertKit to Kajabi for email marketing is that we were starting to see some issues between our customers who were paying customers of our products and subscribers on our list. What was happening is that someone would check out and be added to our list on ConvertKit. We had tags based on the products someone bought that would be added to their email profile. This was because when I was sending an email to someone in a particular product, it was easy to make sure only those customers actually got the email. What would happen though, is that students were unsubscribing an email from us because they didn’t realize they were on “multiple lists”, they wouldn’t get the emails they wanted anymore. We knew that we needed to simplify our process. With Kajabi, it’s much easier for students to unsubscribe from exactly what they want. That means they can skip our regular newsletters and just get our product updates if they want!

#3: I’m already paying for a software that can house my emails!

The third (and perhaps simplest) reason we moved from ConvertKit was that I’m already paying for Kajabi. Kajabi isn’t the cheapest option out there. But neither is ConvertKit. But, when you break down the costs of paying for two softwares that can do the same thing, it’s silly. There’s so much functionality built into Kajabi that you can actually build your entire digital product business in this one tool. When you start to break down the costs of the different providers you’d need if you didn’t use Kajabi, you realize you’re actually saving money.

#4: Kajabi creates beautiful emails!

The fourth reason that I moved from ConvertKit to Kajabi is because Kajabi has the ability to help you create stunning emails to send to your list. While I’m comfortable with messing with codes (which allowed me to create gorgeous emails on ConvertKit), Kajabi doesn’t require coding knowledge! Everything is created using the drag and drop ability that Kajabi has built into their email provider. For me, sending beautiful emails is something that matters. I know not everyone agrees – and some will argue that I’m ruining my open rates. But I know my target audience appreciates them, so it’s a big win for me to be able to make them easily and without any coding!

#5: Kajabi’s automations help make sales easier!

The fifth and final reason I made the switch to Kajabi was because now I can use Kajabi to more of its full potential. Kajabi has such great automations that help me create more touch points with my customers and students. Before, I was having to create these points manually between ConvertKit and Kajabi using Zapier. Now, I can cut out the middleman and focus on what really works well in Kajabi for my students. This allows me to put the right product in front of the right person, at the right time, based on their actions.

Switching from ConvertKit to Kajabi was a hard decision at first, but I’m glad we did it. I love Kajabi’s email marketing platform and I won’t be looking back any time soon. This was the best decision for our business to continue growing our email list and serving out students.
